From lab to market: aligning IP with investment and growth
This seminar is organised in collaboration with the European IP Helpdesk. An investor expert will discuss key takeaways from the Arevo case study, focusing on how aligning IP strategy with business objectives can strengthen investment readiness and support market expansion.
Technology transfer case study: Arevo – agritech sector
Nurturing innovation – how a robust IP strategy attracts investment
Arevo is a Swedish startup founded by professor Torgny Näsholm in 2025. At that time, the company developed sustainable plant nutrition for the forestry sector. After almost a decade in forestry, Arevo aimed to enter the agriculture sector, but needed investment to do so. Collaborating closely with investors proved invaluable, enabling the company to refine its IP strategy, attract investors, develop new products, hire expert staff and successfully expand into new markets.
Key takeaways from the case study:
- Involving a patent attorney who has business experience early on can be crucial for product development and company growth.
- A tech-driven startup needs more than strong patent protection; it requires an IP strategy that assigns a clear value-creating mission to each patent family.
- Deep tech investors expect companies to have a solid understanding of their IP and maintain control over it, often bringing expertise in evaluating IP rights and strategies.
- Investors assess the sustainability of a deep tech company’s competitive advantage by evaluating its technology platform and the future potential of its IP portfolio and strategy.
