Advanced examination topics in the chemical field

This workshop addresses topics relevant to the patentability of inventions in the chemical field at an advanced level. There will be three sessions covering the following topics:

• session 1: particularities of assessing novelty and inventive step in chemistry: polymorphs, isotopically modified compounds and antibodies; medical use claims, second medical use claims; guidelines and relevant Boards of Appeal decisions
• session 2: aspects of clarity and sufficiency of disclosure in chemistry
• session 3: patentability aspects of Markush formulae

The theoretical aspects will be supported by study cases.
