Promoting technology transfer and innovation: how PATLIB centres support universities and SMEs

A successful journey from research results to market requires a solid foundation and a clear path. In a university environment this process is mostly facilitated via the institution's Technology Transfer Office (TTO). PATLIBs can support TTOs throughout the whole journey by providing the essential expertise on how to retrieve the patent information appropriate to each stage of the journey and supporting the TTO in applying for a patent and in the commercialisation phase. This discussion panel will address the current co-operation between the two organisations and look at ways to further promote it.

Panel moderator: Enrico Luzzatto, Europen Patent Office (EPO)

Tobias Braunsberger, PATLIB-EZN Hannover, DE

Alexandra Jeberien, University of Applied Science (HTW Berlin), DE

Idil Kok Hazer, PATLIB ODTÜ Technology Centre Office, TR

Get in touch: Collaboration opportunities outside the network

The collaboration of PATLIB centres with other organisations or with dedicated customer groups is extremely important in order to be optimally prepared for future challenges and to be constantly developing. This session will address successful collaborations.

Veronica Rui, PATLIB Area Science Park, IT

Ursula Höfermayer, Austrian Patent Office (ÖPA)

Funding initiatives from the EC for PATLIB centres and their customers
Several PATLIB centres as well as their customers require backing - on account of either a lack of financial support or a lack of staff. The EC's programmes can provide valuable support in order to help them to meet the demands placed on them as effectively as possible. However, the information about how to request and obtain support from the relevant EC programmes is not always easy to find. This practical session will showcase concrete funding initiatives and explain how to apply.

Panel moderator: Edward Cooke, European Patent Office (EPO)
Iker Ayerbe, European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA)
Richelle Spiekerman, European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)
