EPO meets with Enel
On 24 June 2026, the European Patent Office (EPO) held an online meeting with Enel SpA, an Italian multinational energy company. The exchange formed part of the EPO's ongoing dialogue with large applicants under the User Engagement Programme and Quality Action Plan 2026.
This was the 16th meeting between the EPO and a large applicant in 2026, and the 122nd since 2021. The meeting formed part of the EPO’s regular dialogue with large applicants, supporting the objectives of the Quality Action Plan 2026.
Enel’s delegation comprised ten participants and was led by Donatella Pugliese, Head of Innovation Portfolio Governance and Intellectual Property at Enel. The EPO delegation was headed by Niclas Morey, Principal Director Communication, and included the Chief Sustainability Officer, the Principal Director Quality and Practice Harmonisation, as well as operational managers and staff.
The EPO presented its strategic vision under Strategic Plan 2028, focusing on its five drivers, with particular emphasis on quality, people, tools, geographical outreach through future member states and validation agreements, and partnerships.
The discussion also covered the Unitary Patent, artificial intelligence at the EPO, filing route options and timeliness. The Observatory showcased the Deep Tech Finder and the newly launched Data Desk.
The meeting concluded with Caterina Strippoli, Head of Intellectual Property Portfolio Management and Awareness at Enel, thanking the EPO for the open exchange and valuable insights. She described the exchange as valuable and expressed appreciation for the breadth of the Office’s tools and services, and confirmed Enel's interest in continuing the dialogue with the EPO.
