EPO partners with myAbility Talent Programme for third year running
The EPO’s third “job shadowing day” takes place today, as part of the myAbility Talent Programme in Munich. Initiated in Austria in 2015, the annual programme has expanded to cities throughout the German-speaking countries, helping highly qualified students and recent graduates with disabilities and chronic illness to access the job market.
The “shadowing day” is one of the programme’s main components, in addition to coaching and networking events. In this way, talents get to know participating organisations, which in turn gain know-how about different aspects of inclusion and the long-term employment of people with disabilities. Additionally, staff at participating organisations learn about health and safety aspects so that colleagues can provide one another with the best possible support regardless of disabilities, enabling everyone to fully realise their potential.
As one of several participating organisations, the EPO is once again in good company this year. The others are Amazon; Avanade; Generali; Microsoft; ProSiebenSat1; PwC; Siemens; and Swiss Re.
How does a virtual “shadowing day” work?
Five high-achieving talents will gain experience of nine EPO business units. Colleagues in each of the units will give the talents insights into the work of the EPO by guiding them through a typical working day. Though not easy to organise such encounters in a virtual setting, the Office is seeking to build on the positive feedback received after last year’s exercise.
Origin of the programme
The myAbility Talent Programme was established by myAbility Social Enterprise in Vienna in 2015 and has since expanded to Germany and Switzerland. It seeks to achieve the same rate of employment among people with disabilities as those without disabilities, throughout Europe.
