President António Campinos led an EPO delegation to the 10th International Invention Fair (ISIF) in Istanbul to shine a light on the role of intellectual property in promoting innovation, commercialising inventions, and enabling technological development.

Organised by TÜRKPATENT with support from the Turkish Ministry of Industry and Technology, this prestigious annual event brings together inventors, investors, industry leaders, and intellectual property professionals from around the world to showcase cutting-edge inventions and encourage collaboration. It is also held alongside TEKNOFEST – a leading technology and aerospace event – which further underscores Türkiye’s commitment to technological advancement and innovation.

During the visit, President Campinos met with key national stakeholders, including the Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Kacır. Their discussions focused on the EPO’s and Türkiye’s strategic priorities and enabling successful scaling up of key domestic technologies, as well as effective support for smaller enterprises. They also highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the EPO and TÜRKPATENT, especially the joint co-operation initiatives on AI-based tools to increase effectiveness and efficiency as well as patent quality. Additionally, views were exchanged on emerging technology trends and the role of IP in financing innovation.

In parallel, President Campinos held talks with TÜRKPATENT President, Professor Zeki Durak, with a particular emphasis on reinforcing bilateral co-operation under SP2028 and deepening engagement within the EPO Observatory on Patents and Technology. Both Presidents reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between the EPO and TÜRKPATENT in promoting intellectual property rights protection and fostering technological progress.

The President’s visit also included a short visit to the fair exhibition space, offering first-hand insights into innovative projects supported by TÜBITAK.

The visit highlighted the EPO’s steadfast commitment to supporting innovation through IP protection and creating an environment where inventors and small businesses can more effectively commercialise their inventions.
