EPO President, Honorary Patron of the Magister Lvcentinvs 2026, addresses students at Master’s closing ceremony
The President of the European Patent Office (EPO) António Campinos has addressed graduates of one of Europe’s most prestigious postgraduate courses on intellectual property and digital innovation.
On 5 June, the closing ceremony took place for the 32nd edition of the international Master's degree in IP law, “Magister Lvcentinvs”, at the University of Alicante.
President Campinos, building on the remarks of Elisa Rodríguez, Director of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), who highlighted the importance of new technologies and their societal impact, stressed that the graduates’ future success will depend on combining AI literacy with strong human legal judgement. He encouraged them all to seize the opportunities of the AI-driven transformation of intellectual property, drawing on their legal and technical expertise as well as their critical thinking skills. The President concluded: “The winning 2026 graduate will not be the one who avoids AI, but the one who can supervise it with enough legal judgement that the output is both useful and reliable.”
The University of Alicante is one of more than 180 universities across 38 countries to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the EPO as strategic partners in the Pan-European Seal programme, which helps talented young graduates kickstart their career at an International Organisation.
