On 17 September, EPO President António Campinos visited the Republic of Moldova for the first time since the country’s accession to the European Patent Convention (EPC) on 1 June 2026. During the visit, he met the Minister of Justice, Vladislav Cojuhari, and the Deputy Director of the State Agency on Intellectual Property (AGEPI), Natalia Mogol. The mission provided an opportunity to reinforce the EPO’s partnership with Moldova.

Fostering European competitiveness

In his meeting with Minister of Justice Vladislav Cojuhari, President Campinos emphasised the EPO’s role in fostering European competitiveness. In this context, the talks addressed the EPO’s support for AGEPI in areas such as capacity building, digitalisation and training. The EPO President highlighted AGEPI’s importance as a national hub for IP expertise and underlined the strong basis for closer co-operation between the two organisations.

Broadening access to patent services for local users

At AGEPI, Deputy Director Natalia Mogol welcomed the EPO President for a bilateral meeting focused on further strengthening co-operation. He also met AGEPI staff, providing an opportunity for direct exchanges with colleagues. President Campinos highlighted the EPO’s support for AGEPI’s integration into the European Patent Network and outlined initiatives in talent development, capacity building, digital transformation and AI-based tools to help broaden access to patent services for local users. Discussions also covered additional EPO support for individual inventors, SMEs and research institutions, as well as the role of the EPO Observatory on Patents and Technology in providing evidence-based insights to support policymaking.
