Highest BREEAM rating in DACH region for Vienna office
The EPO’s newly renovated Vienna office has received the highest BREEAM rating in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) – an outstanding 98.47%. For over 30 years, the BREEAM certification system has been a global benchmark for setting sustainability standards for buildings.
“As a collaborative, sustainable home for our shared future, the EPO's Vienna office has succeeded in meeting the highest global standards”, said President Campinos. “The project not only contributes to our goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, it also supports the City of Vienna and the local community in building a more sustainable future for generations to come.”
In November 2024, the Office officially opened its newly renovated building in Vienna after two years of extensive works. The project transformed the building, which was originally completed in 1972, into a carbon-neutral structure and a flagship of sustainability in Europe. The BREEAM rating follows the building winning awards for sustainable urban development and reflects the Office’s consistent commitment to leading the way on sustainability, including through investment in our professional homes.
BREEAM certification: excellence in environmental and sustainable building design
The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method evaluates the environmental performance of a building throughout its entire lifecycle. The assessment is based on ten key sustainability aspects, covering management practices; health and well-being; energy efficiency; transport accessibility; water conservation; responsible material use; waste reduction; biodiversity protection; environmental impact prevention; and innovative solutions.
The Vienna office renovation fulfils all the strict BREEAM criteria at the highest level. It features state-of-the-art technology and ecological solutions and is designed to be carbon-neutral over its entire lifecycle.
