EPO issues joint messages with IP5 partners JPO and KIPO
Munich, 17 July 2020 - European Patent Office (EPO) President António Campinos has issued joint messages with Japan Patent Office (JPO) Commissioner Akira Matsunaga and Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) Commissioner Park Wonjoo on the Offices' responses to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the joint messages, the Heads of Office underline their belief that innovation will play a central role in the recovery from the impact of the pandemic. They highlight that their respective Offices have adapted services and procedures in support of applicants, and adopted new online tools and services. The signatories further emphasised the importance of co-operation, especially given that the pandemic transcends borders, and reaffirmed their commitment to addressing the current challenges together.
These messages follow similar joint statements issued by the EPO with the two other IP5 Offices: the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) at the end of June, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office in April.
