New version of the European Patent Register: data on UPC proceedings related to SPCs
A new version of the European Patent Register was released in July 2024, with various improvements for the benefit of users. Most notably, it is now possible to access information on proceedings before the Unified Patent Court (UPC) relating to supplementary protection certificates (SPCs) for countries covered by the Unitary Patent. This information is available in the UP About this file panel view of the Unitary Patent Register.
SPCs are intellectual property rights which extend the period of effective protection for patents on human or veterinary medicaments and on plant protection products. They are granted to compensate the patent owner for the time it takes to obtain regulatory approval from the authorities.
