Who can represent me before the EPO as IPEA?
In proceedings before the EPO as IPEA, you can be represented by the agent you appointed on filing the international application. However, for the purposes of international preliminary examination it is strongly recommended that applicants who do not have their residence or place of business in one of the EPC contracting states appoint a European representative entitled to practise before the EPO. Alternatively, your agent for the international phase may appoint a European representative as sub-agent to perform this task. Please bear in mind that any agent or subagent appointed specifically to represent you before the EPO as IPEA must be entitled to practise before the EPO. For more information, see PCT-EPO Guidelines, C-II, 5.
