How are the Deep Tech Finder startup activity indicators in the Performance of deep tech startups dashboard defined?

Total funding:
Total funding is the sum of all funding amounts received by Deep Tech Finder startups across all recorded funding rounds, for the selected countries and industries over the 2020-2024 period. A funding round refers to a recorded investment transaction (e.g. seed, series A, series B). Funding amounts are expressed in millions of euros.

Number of deals:
Number of deals refers to the count of funding rounds recorded for Deep Tech Finder startups for the selected countries and industries over the 2020-2024 period. Each funding round is counted once, regardless of how many tranches or investors are associated with it.

Number of net jobs created:
Net jobs created measures the total change in headcount across all Deep Tech Finder startups for the selected countries and industries between 2020 and 2024.

Dealroom provides periodic employee snapshots for each company (e.g. "64 employees in August 2021"). Since these snapshots are irregular and do not always land on 31 December, an interpolation is performed between the two nearest data points to estimate each company's headcount at the end of every calendar year. If no future data point exists to interpolate towards, the last known value is carried forward. No backward extrapolation is applied - if a company's first data point is in 2021, no headcount is assumed for 2020 or earlier.

Employee data points recorded before a company's official founding date are excluded, as these are likely to reflect data inherited from a predecessor or parent entity. Similarly, data points recorded after a company's exit event (acquisition or IPO) are excluded, since the company no longer operates independently.

For each company, the year-end headcount of year Y minus the year-end headcount of year Y-1 gives the net employee change for that year. A positive value means jobs were added, whereas a negative value means jobs were lost.

The number of net jobs created for the selected countries and industries is the sum of individual company-level changes across all Deep Tech Finder companies over the 2020-2024 period.

The number of net jobs created is only calculated for companies for which Dealroom provides employee data. Companies with no headcount history are excluded from this metric.

Number of exits:
An exit refers to a transaction classified as either an initial public offering (IPO) or an acquisition. Only exits recorded in Dealroom between 2020 and 2024 are included. The indicator counts the number of Deep Tech Finder startups, which have exited during that time for the selected countries and industries. Companies that underwent multiple exit events are counted only once.
