What is the cut-off date for the data displayed in the Data Desk?

Data on European patent applications and granted patents is reported on a calendar-year basis. For each reporting year, a cut-off date - typically around five weeks after the year-end - is applied when compiling the data. As a result, each dataset represents a snapshot of the situation as it was understood at that point in time.

Patent applications filed via the PCT are counted by the EPO in the year they enter the European regional phase, once all requirements are fulfilled (typically around 31 months after the priority date, unless requested earlier by the applicant). In some cases, this may be in the calendar year following their initial submission.
