Does the micro-entity reduction also apply to renewal fees for Unitary Patents?
No. There is no reduction of renewal fees based on the status of the proprietor(s) of the Unitary Patents.
However, Unitary Patent proprietors who file a statement to the effect that they are prepared to allow any person to use their invention (licence of right) will additionally benefit from a 15% reduction in renewal fees which fall due after receipt of their statement.
The statement is entered in the Register for unitary patent protection. You can withdraw a license of right statement at any time using EPO Form 7002. However, you will have to reimburse the EPO for the full amount by which the renewal fees were previously reduced before the withdrawal becomes effective.
