When making a payment to the EPO I have received a warning from my bank that the EPO account name, does not match with the receiving bank. What action should I take?
Since October 2025 the EU wide Verification of Payee (VoP) service is in place within the EURO area and offered by banks to their customers prior to authorising a credit transfer. The verification is performed by the sending bank that checks that the recipient’s bank account number and name shown on the transfer, match with the information held by the recipient’s bank account.
If there are differences, the person making the transfer will be receive a warning and asked if they still wish to continue with the transfer. Provided that the EPO’s bank account information (number or IBAN) is correct on the transfer, then the transfer can be continued.
The EPO bank account details are provided on the EPO website.
