It is the last day for paying a particular fee and I am unable to file my debit order because of a system issue. What can I do?
Short answer: check first whether the issue is caused by an EPO service outage.
What to do
- Check the EPO website for notices about service downtime or maintenance.
- If you can’t find any notice, try another payment method such as credit card or bank transfer. If you pay by bank transfer, also submit a request under Article 7(3) RFees.
- If a payment method is unavailable because of a technical issue at the EPO, you may submit a request under point 11 ADA explaining that the service for submitting debit orders was unavailable.
- If the payment period expires on the day of the outage, it is extended to the next day that the service is available again.
- In an emergency, use the Contingency Upload Service if:
- it is the last day to pay
- your deposit account has enough funds
- you can provide proof of the outage (i.e. screenshots)
- You may also be able to submit the debit order via Online Filing 2.0.
Important: always keep evidence of any problems for your records.
Legal basis: Article 7(3) RFees, point 11 ADA.
