How can I use the European Patent Register?

You can use the Register to:

  • find out what stage the European patent application has reached in the patent grant and post-grant procedures
  • monitor the procedural progress of national patent applications (PCTs) for which the EPO has been designated as receiving Office (PCTRO), International Searching Authority (PCTISA), Supplementary International Searching Authority (SISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) (PCT2)
  • find out if an application has been granted or if the application is still pending
  • check the legal status of a European patent in the validated designation states via the deep links to the corresponding national register
  • check whether oppositions have been filed against a European patent
  • monitor correspondence between the EPO and a patent applicant and/or attorney
  • access patent family details
  • monitor applications by means of the Register Alert service
  • check the legal status of patents in the national phase (post-grant) in the Federated Register service
  • check the legal status and proceedings of European patents with unitary effect in the Unitary Patent section
  • view the file wrapper of IP5 members and others in the Global Dossier (if available)
  • download data in WIPO/ST36 standard
  • download documents in the EP/UP All documents view (file inspection).
