EPO, OEPM and WIPO host LATIPAT Meeting

On 28 and 29 April, a regional meeting organised by the European Patent Office (EPO), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) took place in OEPM’s headquarters in Madrid.
The meeting was attended by specialists in information technology and patent information management from 16 IP offices in the Latin American region: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The event celebrated the renewal of the LATIPAT Memorandum of Understanding between the EPO, WIPO and OEPM, ensuring the continued improvement and enrichment with more data of the long-standing patent information platform. Since its launch in 2003, LATIPAT has provided free public access to Spanish- and Portuguese-language patent documentation, now encompassing more than 4.6 million bibliographic records and over 3 million image records.
During the two-day technical meeting, the representatives from the three organisations and the national patent offices reviewed the status of the platform and discussed future collaborative actions.
The EPO emphasised the importance of high-quality patent data and efficient, modern exchange processes as key drivers of robust patent systems and innovation. An overview of the upcoming new LATIPAT platform was also presented, outlining forthcoming features designed to enhance usability through a more modern, user-friendly interface.
