Search division'sExaminer's approach

The examinersearch division should not require or suggest amendments merely because heit thinks they will improve the wording of the description or claims. A pedantic approach is undesirable; what is important is that the meaning of the description and claims should be clear. Also, while any serious inconsistencies between the claims and the description as filed should be objected to (see F‑IV, 4.3), if the claims appear to require substantial amendment, adaptation of the description to the amended claims is better left until the final form of at least the main claims has been settled in examination proceedings.
