ICT seminar 2017

ICT Seminar 2017 posterEvent for patent professionals
20 and 21 September 2017
Garden Court Hotel
Palo Alto, California, USA

Why is it important for the US ICT industry to protect its inventions in Europe? What are the latest developments that US practitioners need to know about? What are the main differences between US and European practice in filing and prosecuting patent applications in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)?

The European Patent Office will host its second seminar on "Patenting Information and Communication Technologies in Europe" on 20 and 21 September 2017 in Palo Alto California. This event will focus on the major aspects of filing and prosecuting ICT-related patent applications at the EPO.

In response to the positive feedback from attendees at last year's event, the EPO is offering three workshops to each participant. The workshops relate to drafting European applications in the respective areas of human-computer interfaces, business methods and the life sciences. Each workshop comprises two sessions: during the first session senior EPO directors, supported by experienced European patent attorneys, will provide insights into best practices across the whole patenting process, from filing to the final stage of opposition. The second session will be a "hands-on" opportunity to look at drafting patent applications according to European standards.

There will also be sessions on "Streamlining patent prosecution at the EPO" and "Latest developments in the Unitary Patent and Unified Patent Court" as well as overviews from both the EPO and IPO on recent developments relevant to the audience.

This high-level event is organised in close co-operation with the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO).

The conference includes a networking cocktail on 20 September, from 6 to 8 PM, a buffet breakfast and lunch on both days.

Target group

If you are an IP manager, patent agent, patent attorney, inâ€‘house counsel or someone who encounters patent issues at the EPO in your work, and you are in the field of ICT, then you should consider attending this event.
