Come to visit us on the EPO's stand!

You'll find us in Hall 07, Stand EN02.

We'll have our experts there to talk to you about

  • Patents and medical technologies
  • Patents in ICT (Information and Communications Technology)
  • Using patent databases
  • Job opportunities at the European Patent Office

Medical technologies and patents

Here are just two examples of inventors who patented their inventions:

Jérôme GalonJérôme Galon: a clearer cancer test

French immunologist Jérôme Galon developed a diagnostic tool that helps medical staff predict the chances of recovery and risks of relapse in cancer patients based upon the strength of their immune response.  Mr Galon is a Winner of the European Inventor Award 2019 in the category research.

Margarita Salas FalguerasMargarita Salas Falgueras: DNA amplification for genomics

Spanish scientist Margarita Salas Falgueras invented a faster, simpler and more reliable way to replicate trace amounts of DNA into quantities large enough for full genomic testing. Her invention based on phi29 DNA polymerase is now used widely in oncology, forensics and archaeology. Ms Salas Falgueras is a Winner of the European Inventor Award 2019.

What motivated these scientists to file a patent? Why did filing a patent matter to them? Why should their and many other inventions matter to you?

The experts on the EPO stand can give you advice on:

  • how to avoid the pitfalls in patenting medical technologies
  • how to describe your invention as an apparatus rather than a method
  • how to find out what other people are patenting
  • how to find out the status of a patent application
  • and other questions you have relating to patents in Europe
