Examination Matters has become the meeting place for patent attorneys dealing with the EPO in the patent granting procedure. Examiners and practitioners provide insight into the mind of the examiner and the day-to-day work performed. Workshops offer the opportunity to conduct detailed discussions with your peers on relevant aspects of examination, share day-to-day experiences and get immediate answers to your practical questions from EPO examiners and epi experts.
During these exceptional times, the EPO is committed to providing an interactive experience similar to what you've come to expect from our traditional in-person events, including online workshops for a limited number of participants. After a short introduction to the topic and an overview of the applicable law, participants will break into small groups for a discussion on a predefined topic or to work jointly on set exercises. At the end of these breakout sessions, all participants will come back together for a plenary session to review the group work done and conclude the presentation.
This year's event will focus on a single broad thematic area, chemistry, and will include four specialised, advanced-level workshops given by senior examiners. In addition, there will be a roundtable on how the procedural, legal and administrative changes introduced under SP2023 will impact the work of patent attorneys (day 1) and a lecture on substantive law (day 2).
This high-level event is once again organised in close co-operation with the epi.
This event is intended to patent attorneys who are active in the prosecution of European patent applications before the EPO.
