In view of the present situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19), this event is not taking place on-site at the EPO in The Hague on 10-11 November 2020. The European Patent Academy is instead organising a online conference on 9-11 November 2020.

Online conference for professional representatives

Examination Matters has become the meeting place for patent attorneys dealing with the EPO in the patent granting procedure. Examiners and practitioners provide insight into the mind of the examiner and the day-to-day work performed.Workshops offer the opportunity to conduct detailed discussions with your peerson relevant aspects of examination, share day-to-day experiences and getimmediate answers to your practical questions from EPO examiners and epiexperts.

In this exceptional year, the EPO is trying tooffer a similar interactive experience as our participants are familiar with from our presential workshops: we are organising online workshops for a limited number of participants. After a short introduction to the topic and an overview of the applicable law, participants are divided in small groups where they can have a discussion on a pre-assigned subject or jointly work on exercises. At the end of the breakout session, all participants come back in plenary to review group work and to conclude the presentation.

In this edition we are focusing on a single broad thematic area, chemistry. We are proposing four specialised workshops at an advanced level given by senior examiners. Additionally, the first day is enriched with around table on the expected impact of changes (procedural, legal and administrative) on patent attorneys' work, which are being introduced under SP2023. Finally, the second day starts with a lecture on an engaging substantive law topic.

This high-level event is once again organised in close co-operation with the epi.

This event is directed to patent attorneys who are active in the prosecution of European patent applications before the EPO.
