Opposition Matters follows in the footsteps of its sister events, Search Matters and Examination Matters, which over the years have become key events for patent searchers and attorneys alike. Have you ever wondered what the day-to-day work of an examiner in opposition involves? This will be your opportunity to find out - direct from our examiners. And with senior European patent attorneys co-presenting alongside EPO examiners, you will get to hear about the best practices they have derived from years of opposition experience. We will also be discussing this year's hot topics, namely the introduction of inter partes oral proceedings by videoconference and the future possibility of hearing witnesses by the same means.
During these exceptional times, the EPO is committed to providing an interactive experience similar to what you've come to expect from our traditional in-person events, including online workshops with limited admission. After a short introduction to the topic and an overview of the applicable law, participants will break into small groups for a moderated discussion on a predefined topic or to work jointly on set exercises. At the end of these breakout sessions, all participants will come back together for a plenary session to review the group work done and conclude the presentation.
While the breakout sessions can accommodate only a limited number of participants, all attendees can follow and benefit from the rest of the presentations, as well as post questions online via a chat function. If you want to book a breakout session, please remember to indicate which topic or technical area you are interested in when registering.
This high-level event is once again organised in close co-operation with the epi.
