The 2021 edition set
Europe's foremost innovation prize on a new path. The ceremony was the first
all-digital event in the Award's history and the EPO announced
two changes to the current format. From 2022, the Lifetime achievement category
will honour one inventor whose work has impacted society. The category will no
longer feature three finalists for which a winner is selected.
Nominations for the European Inventor Award 2022 are now closed. Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit a nomination for next year’s event. With your support, the EPO received 554 proposals, 180 of which are for the first-ever Young Inventors prize.
The finalists will be revealed six weeks prior to the event and the winners will be announced at the ceremony.

Inventors prize
Aimed at innovators 30 and under, the
new prize will recognise initiatives that use technology to solve a problem
within the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals framework. It will also
reward the winner with EUR 20 000.

The 2021 finalists come from more than a dozen countries around the world and their inventions span fields ranging from diagnostics and ultrasound imaging to biometrics, sustainable plastic production, and wildlife protection.

The EPO has launched a new podcast channel called Talk innovation. The channel features interviews with many former finalists and winners of the European Inventor Award and provides a rare glimpse at their latest research, innovation trends, and even inventions used in the fight against coronavirus.
