This week the EPO co-hosted the IPO-EPO Day with the Intellectual Property Owners (IPO) Educational Foundation. The conference was organised in Europe for their members, including both US and European companies.
Held in the EPO's Munich headquarters, the meeting brought together experts from the EPO and from private practice in both regions to discuss and share perspectives on current developments in the patent system. Plenary sessions on the Unitary Patent, harmonisation, recent decisions of the Boards of Appeal and an update on the EPO's quality initiatives were complemented by interactive workshops on sufficiency of disclosure, opposition proceedings, patenting computer-implemented inventions, clarity and Article 123 of the European Patent Convention. The workshops were conducted by an IPO member and an EPO expert and attracted a high number of participants.
The conference highlighted the EPO's role as a reliable partner for industry and further strengthened the relationship with the IPO and patent professionals in corporations, law firms, and government agencies.
The EPO and the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO - a US association of patent attorneys mainly in industry) have a long standing relationship. IPO is, together with the AIPLA, the American counterpart for Trilateral and IP5 industry meetings.
