In 2009, a Joint Expert Group for Patent Examination (JEGPE) was established in order to promote patent co-operation between the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the Korean Patent Office (KIPO) and the Chinese Patent Office (SIPO). Each year, these three offices conduct a comparative study on examination practices, based on their patent laws and examination guidelines, along with a comparative case study on a chosen topic. The most recent study was published on 1 April 2015 and deals with "amendments". Previous studies covered "inventive step", "novelty" and "requirements for disclosure and claims". In addition, a number of comparative case studies have been published up to now.
All comparative documents and case studies published by this initiative since 2010 are available in PDF format on the JPO's English website.
