The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) has recently extended the information on citation data in KIPRIS. Apart from cited documents ("forward citations"), KIPRIS now includes also data of citing documents ("backward citations").
"Cited documents" are references in a search report of patent X to earlier published patents or patent applications. On the other hand, "citing documents" are patents or patent applications which are published later than patent X and include a reference to patent X in their search reports.
In KIPRIS, users can access citation data by clicking on "Details" and afterwards on the tab "citation". While the section for cited documents ("forward citation") includes references to both Korean and foreign documents, the new section for citing documents ("backward citation") includes references to Korean documents only.
Further information is available in the KIPRIS news section (in Korean only)
You can find a step-by-step search guide on how to retrieve information on citation data in KIPRIS on the EPO's "Searching in databases" section for Korea..
