China: Patent Law changes become effective June 1, 2021

On October 17th, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China finally passed the long-awaited 4th revision of the patent law which will enter into force on June 1, 2021. Expected changes are:

  • Supplementary Protection Certificate (SPC)
  • Patent term extension (in pharmaceutical field)
  • New condition for novelty grace period, etc.

At the EPO’s annual East meets West conference which will be taking place online from 23 to 25 November 2020, CNIPA’s experts will give a presentation on the revised patent law. For more details, see the programme of East meets West. Registration is already open.
