EP authority file

The EP authority file provides a sequential gap-free list of all patent document publication numbers issued by the European Patent Office under the IP5 authority file specification.

For consistency checks the EP authority file also contains publication numbers for which no patent document has been issued (withdrawn, deleted) or is not available (missing, reissued, international publications not republished). For further details see the technical description of the EP authority file.

The EP authority file is updated every six months (last update: 27 December 2017) and available in two formats:

  • XML format (ZIP, 30.4 MB) according to the DTD (1 KB).
  • CSV format (ZIP, 18.9 MB) with semicolon-separated line items.

Please note: Each of these files contains over 5 million records and many default applications (e.g. Notepad, WordPad, xml editors) may not be able to open them.

EP authority file publication indicators

Entries that do not feature publication indicators in the EP authority file are available on the European publication server as "regular" publication documents in PDF/A format and WIPO ST.36 XML format. All other entries feature one of the following publication indicators, which have the following meaning:

Publication indicator

Not republished EuroPCT publications

Supplementary search report

Reissued publications

Not used publication numbers

Missing publication documents

Deletions after publication

Unknown publication numbers

Defective publication documents

More explanations and examples of each of the publication indicators above can be found in the technical description of the EP authority file.
