INFORMATION FROM THE EPO
"Test drive" an EPIDOS training course via the Internet
The EPO is conducting trials for distance learning or web-based training. To this end, we have prepared a "prototype" training course accessible via the Internet explaining how to formulate a query in the MIMOSA Version 4 application software for use with the ESPACE CD-ROM series.
However, the content of this prototype is simply an example of the sort of training material that can be handled in this way. In principle, most training courses on EPIDOS patent information products and services could be handled in a similar fashion.
In conjunction with its announcement at PATLIB 2000 in Helsinki in May, we have started end-user testing of the prototype. You can glimpse the possible future of EPIDOS training by going to the EPO Web Site at "www.european-patent-office.org" and following the links to web-based training. Here you will be able to choose between:
(a) "MIMOSA Version 4 - managing queries", the on-line version
(b) "MIMOSA Version 4", the enhanced off-line version for download [18 MB ZIP file], which includes in addition to the training an overview presentation of the complete MIMOSA Version 4 software.
The first time you choose either option, you will be prompted to install the Authorware Web player appropriate for your default browser.
Please note that to run this demonstration successfully, you need at least Netscape Communicator 4.x or Internet Explorer 5.x installed.
If you possess a soundcard and speakers, there is an audio track included in either package. When running the demonstration or training module, just make sure the sound LED is illuminated.

All feedback (there is a Web reply form provided) would be gratefully received and we will try to improve the package throughout the duration of the trial period of several months.
