Accession takes effect on 1 June

The EPO and ECLAC study finds that manufacturing industries using IPR report higher economic growth and an increase in jobs in the LAC region.  

The event focuses on technologies in fire detection and prevention, fire extinguishing, protective equipment and post-fire restauration.

The winners will be announced by the EPO during the award ceremony on 2 July 2026 in Berlin.

Przemek Ben Paczek and team developed a magnetic levitation system designed to retrofit existing railway infrastructure

Franck Zal developed a universal oxygen carrier based on haemoglobin derived from marine worms to preserve organs and tissues.

Sir Adrian Hill and his team developed a malaria vaccine that achieved around 75–80% protection in trials, exceeding the WHO efficacy target.

Finnish physicist and professor Mikko Möttönen invented an ultrasensitive cryogenic microwave sensor to diagnose interference in quantum computers.

Paula Videira and her team developed L2A5, a highly specific antibody that distinguishes cancer cells from healthy tissue. 

Yu Haijun and Xie Yinghao developed a method to recycle various decommissioned lithium-ion batteries into high-performance materials.

Aníbal Montalva Rodríguez and Miguel Ángel Fernández Donoso developed a living biofilter that reduces fine particulate air pollution by over 90%.

Emily Morris and Thorsten Stoesser developed a modular hydropower system that actively channels water through turbines.
