Notice from the European Patent Office dated 15 January 2007 concerning the launch of Online Filing software version 3.20
The European Patent Office has been providing patent applicants and patent attorneys with version 3 of the epoline® Online Filing software free of charge since April 2006.
This version belongs to a software generation that allows users working in a network environment to prepare, sign and file patent applications, and attach documents. It also enables users to submit several applications simultaneously, to import and export data, and to upload XML documents.
The most recent update, launched in December 2006, is version 3.20. One of its features is that system administrators can manage user sessions centrally, back up and restore databases and shrink large databases. It provides a country-specific live-update system and improved PDF rendering of PatXML applications. It also has a tool that makes it easier to work with different manufacturers' smart cards.
Plug-ins for Dutch national applications and French subsequently filed documents along with an updated PCT plug-in allow users to observe the latest filing procedures. Version 3.20 also gives them the option of switching from the CORBA to the SOAP standard protocol.
The EPO recommends upgrading to version 3.20 and using the functionality outlined above.
