Aus diesen Gründen wird entschieden:
1. Die angefochtene Entscheidung wird aufgehoben.
2. Die Sache wird mit der Anordnung an die erste Instanz zurückverwiesen, das Patent auf der Grundlage des nunmehrigen Hauptantrags, eingereicht als sechster Hilfsantrag mit Eingabe vom 19. Dezember 2016, und einer anzupassenden Beschreibung aufrechtzuerhalten.
