Tackling the future: Cross-field inventions in additive manufacturing
Our dynamic world is constantly faced with challenges, such as changes in consumer trends and behaviour, with remarkable investments being made in research and innovation to meet these needs.
A recent development in our interconnected world is cross-field inventions, which combine technologies from several different technological fields. This provides new challenges in finding the best way to protect such inventions with regard to several aspects in the patent-granting process.
This lecture series is aimed at patent professionals seeking to gain deeper insight into the new challenges faced when patenting cross-field inventions. Selected technological fields are chosen to illustrate this new evolution.
Additive manufacturing (or "3D printing") is based on digital manufacturing principles, which combine computer technologies with (mechanical) manufacturing processes. Simulation and modelling help evaluate products and processes prior to the actual manufacturing step.
