1. A request for consolidation of two applications requires payment of two examination fees even though the examination fee paid in respect of one of the applications may be refundable after consolidation.
2. The European Patent Convention nowhere requires the European Patent Office to inform an applicant or his representative that a fee has not been paid in due time.
