In his multimedia work, Daniel Canogar (*1964 Madrid, ES) deals with the influence of technology on social life. The art and science exhibition "Renaissance 3.0", showing at Karlsruhe's Centre for Art and Media (Zentrum für Kunst und Medien, ZKM) until 7 January 2024, includes Canogar’s work "Pneuma". Here, the Spanish artist transforms discarded telephone cables into a seemingly free-floating light installation, suggesting the transition from wired communication to the cloud era. With technological progress, not only has the speed of daily life changed; previously tangible, concrete conditions have been displaced.

The artist also addresses a loss of the tangible in the work "Ripple" (2016), part of the EPO art collection. In this abstract video animation, he processes streamed, real-time CNN videos. Each time the news channel uploads a video online – approximately once every 10 minutes – it is incorporated into “Ripple”. Reduced to their main colour values, the videos appear as cascades of colour, flowing down in waves across the screen. Thus the work invites discussion about the degree to which a high-speed Internet connection, and the endless floods of information it enables, promotes or hinders an understanding of the world.
