Nomination of Data Protection Board members
Paolo Balboni has been appointed as Chair of the new Data Protection Board. He will be supported by Paul Breitbarth and Fernando Silva. All of the new board members are highly knowledgeable and widely recognised data protection experts with extensive professional experience at an international level.
The Data Protection Board has been set up under the new EPO Data Protection Rules, which were adopted by the Administrative Council in June 2021 and recently entered into force. It will act as an independent advisory body with an oversight function and play a key role in the legal redress mechanism in place at the EPO for data protection matters.
Open and positive collaboration between the EPO and the Data Protection Board will be crucial to ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Rules and protecting the rights, freedoms and interests of all data subjects.
