2 June 2016
On 1/2 June, the 9th IP5 heads of office meeting and IP5 industry meetings took place in Tokyo, Japan. The meetings took stock of developments in key areas such as the Global Dossier, the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH), Common Citation Document (CCD) and patent harmonisation to name but a few areas.
The Global Dossier has been a particularly successful endeavour with 600 000 individual users in EPO systems in 2015. The CCD, hosted by the EPO, has grown to over 200 million patent citations, freely available over the Internet. These are important contributions to improving the world-wide patent system.
On this occasion, the IP5 offices also agreed on next steps which will further improve the Global Dossier with functionalities such as alerting and legal status information.
The IP5 is the forum bringing together the world's five largest IP offices, namely the European Patent Office (EPO), the Japan Patent Office (JPO), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China (SIPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), which together account for around 80% of all patent applications being filed worldwide.
