Christoph Ernst elected Chairman of the Administrative Council of the European Patent Organisation
The Hague/Munich, 28 June 2017 - The Administrative Council of the European Patent Organisation unanimously elected Christoph Ernst as its next Chairman at its 152nd meeting in The Hague today. He will take up office on 1 October 2017 for a period of three years.
Mr Ernst, who heads the directorate responsible for economic law, new technologies and IP at the German Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection, has served as head of the German delegation to the Administrative Council since month/year.
He will succeed Jesper Kongstad, who was Chairman of the Council since July 2010, and will leave his position as Director General/CEO of the Danish Patent and Trademark Office, and head of delegation to the Administrative Council on 1 October.
The Administrative Council is along with the European Patent Office one of the two organs of the European Patent Organisation. The Council acts as the Office's supervisory body, approving the budget and appointing senior managers, and is composed of representatives of the 38 EPO member states.
