6.2 Extent of the obligation to be represented – appointment of a professional representative
6.2.1 Identification by appointed representative
If an applicant has mandated a professional representative to act on their behalf (also) in the European phase, the representative needs to identify themselves accordingly to the EPO as designated/elected Office. This applies mutatis mutandis to a legal practitioner under Art. 134(8) (A‑VIII, 1.3). The same applies where applicants having their residence or principal place of business in an EPC contracting state are represented by an authorised employee (A‑VIII, 1.5).
