Is there a virtual meeting etiquette for oral proceedings by VICO?
In addition to following the same etiquette as for face-to-face oral proceedings, you should also:
- Make use of the EPO's advance test call service.
- Ensure you will not be disturbed during the proceedings.
- Connect on time so as not to delay the proceedings or miss important information.
- Mute your microphone when you are not speaking.
- Avoid speaking at the same time as another person.
- Let the division know immediately if you experience any technical problems.
- Make sure the room is properly lit. Either place your computer in front of a window or place a lamp behind your computer so that light is shed on your face. Avoid being lit from behind, e.g. with a window behind you.
- Refrain from using virtual backgrounds that cause visual artifacts. These are both a distraction and can prevent the interpreters from faithfully reading the facial expressions of the speakers.
- Make sure you use a high-quality USB microphone, especially for oral proceedings involving interpretation.
- Refrain from using external speakers as these can cause echoes. We recommend using a headset or headphones.
