Patent litigation in Europe: A panel discussion on the implications of the CJEU decision BSH/Electrolux
This advanced lecture series is dedicated to examining current topics in patent litigation in Europe, including the launch of the UPC and the emergence of new European patent jurisprudence. Some lectures in this series will feed the content of and will lead up to the annual Litigation Matters conference to be held at the end of the year. Participants can attend each session separately or the entire series. It is organised by the EPO in co-operation with the European Patent Lawyers Association (EPLAW) and the European Patent Litigators Association (EPLIT)
A panel on the implications of the BSH v. Electrolux decision would focus on how the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) expanded jurisdiction in cross-border patent litigation, looking at the implications of the decision.

Justyna Rasiewicz
Partner / Attorney at law
Justyna is an attorney at law with over 20 years of experience in IP litigation, in the field of patent law both before the civil courts and the Patent Office. She advises clients in a variety of industries, including pharmaceutical, construction, retail, gaming and IT.
She also successfully advises her clients on all aspects of trademark law, industrial designs, unfair competition and copyrights. She has represented clients before the Polish Supreme Court as well as the Court of Justice (EU).
Justyna was the first Polish attorney at law to join the European Patent Lawyers Association (EPLAW). She is also an active member of AIPPI (The International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) where she takes part in the work of the Amicus Brief Committee (ABC).
Justyna is also recognized for her academic activity, including teaching (IP litigation lectures for patent-attorney trainees) and publications (coauthor).
Björn Rundblom Andersson

Björn is a partner at Westerberg, he assists clients in all sectors and fields of technology. With a background in commercial litigation and arbitration, he specialises in disputes in the intersection of IP law and contractual law, such as licence related agreements disputes. The disputes are regularly part of larger pan-European litigation carried out together and in coordination with counsel from other jurisdictions.
Björn has undergone the Swedish Arbitration Association’s arbitrator training programme and have been entrusted to sit as an arbitrator. Whilst his focus is on contentious work, he is is also able to advise on non-contentious matters. Björn is a member of the European Patent Lawyers Association (EPLAW), the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the Swedish Arbitration Association (SAA) and various Swedish associations for IP lawyers.
Christine Kanz
Partner / Attorney at law
Christine Kanz works for Hoyng Rokh Monegier and has worked as an attorney since 1998. She focuses primarily on international patent litigation in the areas of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and chemistry, but has also handled numerous cases in the areas of medical devices, mechanics and consumer products.
Much of her work involves cross-border litigation with the result that she is highly experienced in planning and coordinating such cases.
Christine regularly publishes on patent law matters and speaks at conferences on patent law issues.
She acts for her clients before the Unified Patent Court, the European Patent Office and the national German courts, including Regional and Higher Regional Cour
Christine is also a visiting lecturer for procedural law in intellectual property matters at the Hagen Law School, in addition for licensing in patent law at the LMU
Gregory Bacon

Gregory works for Bristows. His extensive scientific background gives him a valuable understanding of technical issues that can underlie IP matters, particularly in the life sciences field. For almost 20 years, he has advised and represented clients on small molecule pharmaceuticals, biologics (originators and biosimilars), biomanufacturing, medical devices (hardware and software), as well as in the chemicals, cosmetics, food, shipping and online publishing sectors.
Greg has represented clients in many patent cases before both the English High Court (including Patents Court) and Court of Appeal. In addition, Greg has extensive experience of strategic multinational litigation in multiple jurisdictions, including at the EPO, through global pharmaceutical product coordination projects for many clients. He is also an Authorised Representative handling cases before the UPC.
