SME case study: Infinite Roots – biotech sector
From strategic IP portfolio to infinite business possibilities
Infinite Roots is pioneering new food systems by innovating across the value chain, from circular fermentation feedstocks using agricultural byproducts to formulating consumer products that leverage the functional advantages of mycelium. The company’s vision extends beyond meat alternatives, targeting food waste reduction, emission control and food security challenges.
Key takeaways from the case study:
- Employ a dedicated and experienced IP manager as soon as financially possible to build and drive a robust IP strategy across the company.
- As the level of investment increases with each round, so do investor requirements regarding IP.
- Use business and patent intelligence to target patent protection strategically, balancing costs with market and competitive opportunities.
- Focus on developing platform technology, as it offers the potential for creating diverse products and accessing multiple markets.
