About green tech
Last updated: 3.11.2022
Life on Earth is at risk due to climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. It is the responsibility of each and every one of us, of every inventor, investor, policymaker and organisation, to join forces and find solutions.
The commitment of the EPO
Innovation in sustainable technologies has a crucial role to play in tackling the world's most pressing challenges. We at the EPO are committed to fostering innovation, competitiveness and economic growth for a safer, smarter and more sustainable world.
Our core operations are structured around eight technology communities that reflect global technology landscapes. These communities are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which offer a framework for both prosperity and protecting life on Earth. Our technology communities also respond to the changing needs of the European Union's industrial ecosystems, which aim to help achieve carbon neutrality and strengthen the European Union's digital sovereignty .
A glimpse of key technological advances
Sustainable development is crucial to ensuring that future generations enjoy the same quality of life as it is possible to enjoy today. In terms of global climate commitments, the Paris Agreement of 2015 already stated the need to cut emissions by half by the end of this decade. Now, and in light of the continued boom in digital technologies, the pace and direction of innovation is changing.
Our pages on green tech take you on a journey through ground-breaking advances to date and provide glimpses of what is to come. Discover the contributions of individual inventors and explore related patent information in each area of innovation!
