Agreement signed with Institut français

The EPO has signed an agreement with the Institut français to boost French language training across Europe. Under an agreement, signed today in Paris by EPO President Benoît Battistelli, Institut français President Xavier Darcos and Jean-Baptiste Mattéi, Director-General of Globalisation, Development and Partnerships at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the institute will provide French language training to staff of national patent offices, candidates for the European qualifying examination (i.e. future European patent attorneys) and patent judges in the EPO member states.  

The EPO signed similar agreements last month with the British Council and Germany's Goethe-Institut. The series of three partnerships aims to strengthen the use of the EPO's three official languages in those 27 member states that do not have English, French or German as official languages. It is an important part of the EPO's "Co-operation Roadmap" with its member states.

"We are delighted to seal this partnership with another leading European language institute to boost the expertise and skills of the staff of national patent offices and different key actors, and to foster the efficiency of the patent system across Europe," said EPO President Benoît Battistelli.
